    SL
I immediately forgot my SL avatar's screen name so I created a new character. Naturally the first thing I did was to get some cute clothing for them. I was at a place called the "Free Dove" and I noticed they posted so many rules around the store. There are so many rules in Second Life it was really overwhelming. As a newcomer, I was confused by some of the rules and was just trying to be polite like I would in the real world. I didn't want to get kicked out of a store the first hour my new character was on Second Life. I'm sure the rules were there for a reason, but to me they seemed bizarre and sometimes obscure rules against behaviors.

    Navigation
I was going through my bookmarks and I noticed that most of the websites that I visit actually have secondary navigation

http://www.kawaiinails.com/ <- This ridiculous websites has drop downs for each navigation item. I'm not sure how this was created though.

http://www.cheeptrims.com/ <- I don't think the navigation in this website is in HTML, but I think something like this would look nice for my final website.

http://www.burdastyle.com/sewpedia <-- the primary navigation is at the top of the page and the secondary is on the right side. This is an interesting effect. I might be able to use this, but I have to be careful it doesn't get confusing for the user.

    Best and Worst Websites
    The Worst-  http://www.strapya-world.com/

This may not be the worst website on the internet, but it is very frustrating. I love this website for its content, but the navigation is annoying and at certain times baffling. The first thing you will notice on this website is the bright and not entirely cohesive color scheme. Ignoring the poor Japanese to English translations, the text font is uninteresting. The links on the website have not been changed to match the colors of the graphics. The main navigation links are placed at the top of the site, but there are links everywhere on the website. It is very confusing which link is the way to find something

After clicking the main link at the top of the page called "cell phone straps and charms" you have to guess which category the product you want to buy is under. There are too many pictures on this website making the site appear too busy. I prefer a simple and clean layout. Sometimes when you are surfing this site it randomly goes back to the homepage when you click on a link. This is extremely frustrating because then you have to find your way back through the confusing navigation to where you were. This could be easily solved by checking the href tag on the links.

    The Best- http://www.thomascheng.com/

The splash page is one of the best parts of this website. I have cannot think of another time I was so impressed with a splash page. The splash page is very simple with a picture of his logo using various media. The image changes every time you refresh the page. Once you click "view work" which is clearly marked, you enter the main page. As you click through the links on the left, the right side of the page scrolls to the piece of work you want to view.

This layout is clean and free of clutter. The lack of color in the layout of this website really works to emphasize the design work this artist. The only use of color in the layout is on his contact information. I thought this was odd at first, but it is really clever. This is the most important part of this website. If people cannot find the contact link because it blends in, he will not make any money.  When you mouse of one of the main links on the left a little talk bubble appears to the right with a little description of the link. This website is beautifully simple and extremely effective in getting its main point across. The best part of this website is that it is extremely easy to use.

    20 years from now

In my 41 years of life, there have been many new problems I have seen arise. Genetic Engineering ethically questions have by far been one of the toughest ethical situations I have seen people deal with.  At first, the decisions were easy. Of course you should genetically engineer rice to grow anywhere to solve world hunger. Not many people argued about the cancer free baby 20 years ago.  Since Mario Cappecchi developed a way to deliver these modifications into the gene pool, problems started to arise. People were concerned about children becoming all the same, and the decisions on genetic engineering got harder. Even seemingly easy decisions got harder. Do I want my child to be born with immunities to all known diseases? Those who did not want to genetically engineer their children were forced to go with this option or their child would surely be outlived by their peers.

Then the laws came. At first they were simple. No genetic engineering for “cosmetic purposes.” In other words, the parents were not to change the physical features of their children. This law was quickly overridden.  Now there is a clearly visible line between the rich and those who cannot afford genetic engineering. Maybe 10 years from now the mall will look like two distinctive groups. Those who were genetically engineered will be strong, big, and good looking. The others will be what used to be the norm for kids that age.  There is a law the government is trying to pass to prevent this situation 10 years from now.  The law puts a cap on how much genetic engineering costs. This helps the situation, but still does not protect the very poor.  Maybe things will get better 20 years from now, but right now they are still very chaotic.

    Website Topic
I feel confident in my abilities to make this website with the tools we were given so far. I was thinking about writing my website about Artificial Intelligence. I find this topic to be very interesting, and I know very little about it. Maybe for a subtopic I could use the media's representation of AI in movies and television. I do not have any questions yet about how to make this website.

    Robotics

After we took the time in class to learn about our topics, I thought one of the robots I learned about were worth looking at again. It was exoskeletons. I had never heard of anything like this before. It seemed like far off science fiction. Exoskeletons are basically robots that people can wear to make them stronger and faster. The military has been developing these, and I even read an article about exoskeletons being used for farmers in Japan.

I am concerned about the development of exoskeletons. They seems like a great idea in the military to improve our soldiers, but then war becomes a technology race. This could start a terrible trend of using technology for violence instead of improving our future peaceful lives. Even off the battlefield, this new technology could have negative implications. If all the boys in high school wear exoskeletons to aid their football game, this could be a problem. What could we do about teenage hormones gone awry in an super-strong exoskeleton. Other people would be completely unable to defend themselves against anyone who got a hold of thistechnology with bad intentions.

I am having a hard time seeing a need for an exoskeleton for my own personal daily life. As a student, I do not lift too many heavy objects or have the need to run quickly carrying heavy objects. I can see myself being very intimidated by those who need to or choose to wear exoskeletons in the future. It is shocking the terrible things humans can do to one another. I fear how  the violence may change with the common use of exoskeletons.

In ten years or when exoskeletons are in common use, I believe they will not be used to their full potential on a non-military scale. I believe the government will pass laws regulating the use and capabilities of exoskeletons. I wonder if people will need a background check to own one or if an exoskeleton will be available at Best Buy.

    Introduction!
    Hi Everyone,
    This is Natalie~!

He's pretty cute. I love hanging out on the internet. Chatting on AIM or bothering people on forums. IRL I like crafts and hobbies. I crochet , but I don't knit. That's impossible. I love jewelry and Asian horror movies. I'm really excited about learning Flash. I've always wanted to learn it, but the program is expensive and I haven't had the time. I clearly had fun making my LJ cute too. I'm student station manager of KRTU and I also host a show on Tuesday nights from 10PM- 12AM. I love it. It's so much fun. I'm getting married on June 13, 2009.  It's coming up and I'm pretty excited about it.
